Nurses¡¯ Knowledge, Attitudes, Experience, and Confidence toward Advance Directives

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify nurses¡¯ knowledge, attitudes, experiences, and confidence toward advance directives(ADs).

Methods: The design of the study was a descriptive research study and data were collected from 398 nurses who worked at P hospital in a B-city. The collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe?? test, Pearson correlation coefficients.

Result: The knowledge toward ADs had a significant positive correlation with attitudes(r=.21, p<.001), & confidence toward ADs (r=.16, p=.001). The Attitudes toward ADs had a significant positive correlation with experience toward ADs(r=.15, p=.002), & confidence(r=.29, p<.001). There was a significant positive correlation between experience toward ADs & confidence(r=.46, p<.001).

Conclusion: It is necessary to develop education program in order to increase the confidence towards ADs.
